DDoS Protection as an MSP Revenue Stream (and When to White Label Instead)

Most MSPs are already fielding calls when a client’s server goes down under attack. The response is usually reactive: SSH in, run tcpdump, figure out what’s happening, write some iptables rules manually, and hope the attack stops before the client notices the SLA is blown. That process takes 20 to 40 minutes on a good day. It does not scale across a 20-client portfolio.

The more interesting question is whether DDoS monitoring should sit in your service catalog as a line item rather than a fire drill you handle for free.

Flowtriq is structured in a way that makes this practical. You pay $9.99 per node per month. There are no per-alert fees, no traffic volume charges, and no seat limits. You create a separate workspace for each client, each fully isolated with its own nodes, incidents, alert channels, and status page. Your NOC team gets admin access across all workspaces. Client staff get read-only access to their own workspace only. You can onboard a new client in under ten minutes.

The billing math is simple. Most MSPs running this charge clients somewhere between $15 and $30 per server per month for DDoS monitoring. At 50 nodes, you’re paying Flowtriq around $500 a month and billing clients $750 to $1,500 depending on your pricing. The service runs itself. Detection fires in under a second, mitigation escalates automatically through local firewall rules, BGP FlowSpec, and cloud scrubbing if needed, and the client’s status page updates in real time. No one on your team has to wake up at 3am and SSH into anything.

The white label option changes the framing entirely. Instead of reselling Flowtriq as a visible third-party tool, you deploy it under your own brand. Custom domain (you add a CNAME record pointing to Flowtriq’s white label infrastructure), your logo, your colors, your login page text. Clients see your company name throughout. The per-node rate drops to $7.99/month on the white label plan. There’s a $200 deposit to activate it, which goes on your account as billing credit, so it covers your first 25 or so nodes before you start paying out of pocket.

The decision between reselling and white labeling usually comes down to how you want to position DDoS protection. If it’s a transparent add-on in your catalog and clients know what tools you use, reselling is simpler. If you’re building a security product under your brand and you don’t want clients googling the underlying platform, white labeling makes more sense.

Either way, the multi-workspace architecture handles the operational complexity that makes DDoS monitoring hard to deliver at MSP scale.
